Make a DIY explosion box as a heartfelt gift for a special friend with this SVG. A photo explosion box is the most amazing personalized gift!
I have been working on exploding gift boxes for months.
The first heart explosion box I designed was a gift for a good friend’s 40th birthday. We had about seven years’ worth of amazing memories together while we were living abroad in China, so the gift box needed a lot of room for photos. The explosion boxes I had seen before didn’t have nearly enough space.
She received the heart explosion gift box during her 40th birthday trip in Barcelona and was amazed by it! Success!!
This heartfelt DIY gift comes with a very detailed, step-by-step instruction book with lots of photos, tips, and creative ideas.
💝 If you are looking for the perfect, non-store-bought gift – here it is.
💖 If you are looking for a meaningful, special, heartfelt gift for someone – here it is.
💟 If you are looking to create a one-of-a-kind gift that no one will ever receive again – here it is.
You will love watching that special someone take the lid off of the explosion box and seeing their face light up as the sides fall down and your memories pop out.
They will grin and smile and laugh as the lid is removed, the sides fall, and emotions surface…. again…. and again…. and again…..
There are six customizable layers to this box that they’ll enjoy!
How to decorate an explosion box?
The best way to decorate this heart explosion box is to personalize it with photos. Explosion boxes are not the most simple projects, so plan to spend quite a bit of time picking out papers, photos, and memories to really made it special!
The photos and memories are what truly makes this the best gift.
Each layer has multiple options for pockets, envelopes, or photos. Stick a little note or memento in the envelope. Put a private photo in a pocket. The possibilities are endless!
There are different types of fold outs that hold three, four, seven or more photos.
Won’t it be amazing watching your friend fold out each layer, and each set of photos, and smile and laugh while reliving your happy memories together?

Do you want to sell handmade Explosion Boxes?
Many crafters asked if they could create explosion boxes to sell, so I’ve created a commercial use license.

A common issue with all exploding boxes is that the sides don’t drop down completely when the lid is removed. I’ve created a few tips to make sure your explosion photo box falls dramatically.
Note: The heart explosion box always takes more effort to get to fall better, as the folds of the hearts cause the most difficulty. These tips will make the normal explosion box fall instantly!

Emily, I love your creativity! I first heard of you at cricut craftfest… took the mantle-worthy card class. I thought that I had downloaded the template, but, alas…. I only have the supplies and directions page… the link is now unavailable. Is it possible to get the link to that project? It would be greatly appreciated. thanks… sharon s

Laurie, you can do it! Congratulations on your Cricut. Don’t be shy to ask for help; as with anything, there is a steep learning curve. I’ve been thinking about the first thing I made… it was pretty rough and I really had no idea what I was doing.
