Card Base and Envelope

Download the free SVG for a blank card and perfectly-sized envelope to use in many projects.

The pop-up unicorn card fits into this envelope. It’s also used in all of the non-Hallmark cards.

Materials needed to make the card base and envelope

  • SVG for the card base and envelope, plus the image messages for print-and-cut. All of these files are in design #69 – Envelope and Card Base in the Free Files Folder.
    • (If you don’t have the password for the free files, fill in the form at the bottom of the page and it will be emailed to you.)
  • Cricut such as an Explore or Maker
  • Blue LightGrip mat
  • Scoring tip or stylus
  • two pieces of 8.5 x 11 inch cardstock; one for the card base and one for the messages
  • one 12×12 sheet of cardstock for the envelope
  • glue or tape runner

How to prepare the file in Cricut Design Space

Download the ZIP file. Open the ZIP file.

Upload the “card-base-and-envelope_minorDIY.SVG” file to Design Space. (Need a refresher? Click here.)

Ungroup everything.

Select the three layers as shown below, by holding down the Shift key and clicking on each layer.

From the Operation dropdown menu, choose Score.

Then Attach each score layer to the one below it, using the paperclip icon in the bottom right side of the window.

The darker purple piece is the outside of the card. (It can be cut out of normal, letter-sized, 8.5 x 11 inch card stock.)

The gray area is sized correctly so you can place an image with a sentiment on it, or you can cut the piece out of light-colored paper and write your own.

The white piece with a score line will be used when you want the entire inside of the card to be one color.

The purple envelope must be cut out of 12×12 inch card stock.

How to cut and assemble the card base and envelope

Cut and score the card base from letter-sized or A4 card stock.

Cut out the inner card base or message areas if needed. For many of the cards, you’ll use the Print then Cut messages.

Cut and score the envelope.

Crease on all of the score lines of the envelope. Fold the two sides in.

Glue the bottom of the envelope to the sides.

Slide your card in.

Close the envelope with a sticker.

This simple card base and large envelope can be used in many projects.
