Download the free printable to make gift tags that hide the receiver’s name… until it’s revealed by scratching off part of the tag.
Do you make everything with your Cricut? Use this free SVG and Print Then Cut to cut out three pages of gift tags.
When I was a kid, I loved to peek at presents. I’d search for their hiding spaces before they were wrapped, and shook them, examining them carefully after they were placed under the Christmas tree.
Now that I have four kids, I need to make sure that the number of gifts for each child under the tree is EXACTLY the same at all times. Sizes should be considered too; if a very large package with one child’s name is on it, I’ll hear “but it’s not fair….” before anyone knows what’s in it.
Now, I’ve discovered a brilliant method to help keep the suspense going and prevent any whining until each present is actually unwrapped.
Gift tags that keep the recipient’s name hidden!
These are incredibly easy to make!
My friend Jen of Well Crafted Studio drew these gorgeous gift tags in Procreate, and showed us how to make layered gift tags with her images. (You can read her post here.)

With her permission, I used her beautiful designs to create printable gift tags with space to hide the recipientโs name.

To make these gift tags, you’ll need:
- The free gift tags project file, either the Cricut file or Printable
– #134 – Cricut SVG Gift Tags (for use with Scratch Off Stickers)
or
– #133 – Printable Gift Tagsย (for use with Scratch Off Stickers)ย - Printer (this is my amazing printer; itโs a wide-format photo printer)
- Something to print on – I used Zicoto printable vinyl glossy sticker paper I also tested a holographic sticker paper. Regular cardstock would also work, but itโs nice to be able to stick the labels on without tape or glue.
- 2 x 1 inch scratch-off stickers (available from Amazon.) The price and number of stickers can change quite a bit, so compare the links to see what will work best for you.
– 100 silver scratch-off stickers
– 100 Holographic silver scratch-off stickers
– 1000 silver scratch-off stickers

How to use the Free Gift Tags SVG in Cricut Design Space
Download the ZIP file and open it. It’s file #134 – Cricut SVG Gift Tags (for use with Scratch Off Stickers) in the Free Files Folder.
Upload the three PNG files to Design Space.
Choose Complex for the image type.

It’s a PNG file with a transparent background, so you don’t need to do anything on this screen.

Choose Print Then Cut Image and click on the Upload button.

It will pull in very large, as usual.

With all three layers selected, Align the images.

With all three layers still selected, type in 6.75 (inches) in the Width Box. It’s important to set this correctly, or the scratch-off stickers won’t fit the labels correctly.

You’re ready to Make it!
Click the Make button.
There’s no need to Add Bleed to these images, as they already have a white border.
Always Use System Dialog so that you can select the Best Quality for your Print then Cut.

Print Then Cut the three pages.

Write the recipient’s name with a Sharpie (especially if you are using glossy printable vinyl.)
Use a bigger tag if you want the From area to show.

Use a smaller tag to cover both the To and From spaces.
Place a scratch-off sticker over the label.

Stick the label to the gift.

The info stays secret until you scratch it off with a coin!

How to make scratch-off gift tags without an electronic cutting machine
Download the PDF file and print it. It’s file #133 – Gift Tags with Scratch Off Stickers PDF in the Free Files Folder.

Print out the gift tags. You can print them on regular cardstock, or sticker paper, or even holographic sticker paper.

Write the name of the person who is getting the gift. Sharpies work best if you are using glossy paper.

Cut out the tags.

Stick it onto the gift. I recommend doing this BEFORE you cover up the name, just in case you forget which gift it is or who itโs for.

Stick one of the silver scratch-off stickers over the name.

When it’s time to open gifts, let one person choose a gift and scratch off the name.
That person opens the gift, and then chooses another gift and scratches off the label.

That’s super-fun, right??
You could use them to hide information such as who put which gift into Secret Santa too!
I hope you love making these fun, mysterious, scratch-off gift tags that prevent siblings from worrying that everyone else has more presents than they do!
