Looking for a fun and educational way to pass the time during the winter season?
It’s started to ❄️ snow ❄️ today (October 13th) where I live in South Dakota.
All week, the weather alerts for Winter Storm Warnings have been going off on my phone.
I also received an email that October 13th is National Train Your Brain Day, so naturally I combined those two things in a project for you.
To get all of those thoughts and feelings out of my head, I decided to create a word search with them!
You can download it from the Free Files Folder. It’s design #120 – Winter and Holiday Word Search (printable).
It’s not just a delightful diversion from worrying about just how much snow accumulation we’ll have…. it’s a brain-boosting activity!
Why Word Searches are actually good for you
- For kids, word searches are an engaging way to build their vocabulary.
- Keep your creative mind sharp! Word searches provide an excellent way to exercise your brain and enhance your pattern recognition skills.
- Winter is all about warm gatherings with family and friends. Craft and solve word puzzles together for a memorable time.
- It’s something easy and simple to occupy your mind and time, and better for you than doom-scrolling.
Grab your favorite warm beverage, cozy up to the fireplace, and start hunting for words.
Warning: This isn’t an easy search. It has 72 words and phrases that go in all directions.
Don’t worry, the answer key is included in the file.
Creativity comes in many forms, and sometimes taking a break with a brain-boosting word search can be just as fulfilling as crafting.
How do you feel about word searches?
Personally, I like them better than cross-word puzzles because I don’t have to think (and then feel dumb if I can’t get it.)

I love the word searches. I’m still working on the YOU search, it’s a little harder than I’m used to. I generally have the paperback book you can pick up in store lol. Thanks so much for them and all you do. Love Sue

That one IS hard! So, those positive words really should get stuck in your head. 😊
I’m glad you’re enjoying them.

Hello,
Yes I love word searches. They are so nice to do while waiting in the Drs. Office etc. or just on a cold day. I live in Georgia so no snow we just got our first cool day here it did not get to 70 today which was really nice after the long hot summer.

I just got to doing the puzzle today. It was hard, but enjoyed it very much. Lol, I couldn’t stop until I was done. It took me over an hour to complete.
Emily says
I bet! I haven’t completed it yet. 🙂
I have a friend who does it during her down time during substitute teaching.

Puzzles also create new neural pathways and stave off short term memory loss. I work in a senior community and we use them for this reason!
Emily says
Awesome!!
Are these too small for seniors to read easily?
