How to copy and paste between projects in Cricut Design Space

Want to incorporate elements from a previous Design Space project into your current one?

Often, I’m working on a project in Design Space, and realize that I already have the element that I need in a different project.

I’ve already typed the text, chosen the font, made the spacing perfect, and changed the colors. I don’t want to repeat those steps again in this project.

But…. how do I get it from that other project to the current one, with all of the edits I’ve made?

It’s actually really easy!

Watch the reel below to learn how.

Need to add something from an old Design Space project to the one you’re currently working on?

Here’s how to do it!

  1. In Design Space, open a New Window.
  2. Navigate to the project that has the element you’re looking for and open it.
  3. Click on the element to select it.
  4. Either use the keyboard shortcuts or right-click and choose Copy.
  5. Click on the other open window with your current project.
  6. Right-click and choose Paste.

💜 Note: These instructions are current as of 24 Oct 2023; I’m using Design Space Version 8.3.52 on both Windows and Mac.

This does NOT work on a tablet or mobile device, as you can’t have multiple windows or versions of the app open simultaneously.

💻

How to Copy/Paste between Design Space Projects on a Windows computer

In Design Space, click the three dots at the top of your window, then choose File > New Window.

Navigate to the project that has the element you’re looking for and open it.

This is actually a little tricky; you need to click on the icon that looks like a letter box to get to your Projects.

Click the Customize button to open it.

Click on the element to select it.

Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C or right-click and choose Copy.

Click on the other open window with your current project.

Right-click anywhere on the canvas and choose Paste.

Yay! Your element is now in your current project.

If you prefer using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + V to paste, first you must highlight something in the layers panel.

Now, press your Ctrl + V keys to paste it into your project.

I like videos (not reels), but I really like that blog post aren’t dependent on a social media platform! (Especially with them acting more and more like bullies)

And a blog post also has the advantage of being easier to translate if English isn’t your first language.

They’re also easier to search for some detail you can’t quite remember and to refer to specific steps.

Thanks for your helpful tutorials ad beautiful projects!

Yes, social media isn’t shown to everyone so I can’t depend on it. When you are on my email list, I know my stuff can be delivered directly to you. Excellent point about the translation too!

I prefer a post with screenshots. Depending on what it is, I print things off because I learn better having something physical to refer to. But, I also understand the ease of videos!

I edit my videos so much to make them short and to the point, so it’s not so quick for me to make them.

I have been thinking about trying to put all of my tips in a PDF but… time…..

I think many people think it’s great to find new ideas on short videos, but for a step-by-step tutorial, a blog post is better.

I prefer reading a blog post with screenshots over videos. The videos take too long to load and are very difficult to skim to find a particular step somewhere in the middle. With a written blog, it loads very quickly and I can easily scroll through the page to find the section I need to refer to. Also, headphones aren’t required for written blogs, but are a must for videos (so I don’t annoy others).

I’d rather have a blog post with pictures. I have spent countless hours searching thru videos to find a couple of minutes worth of info. Some of these people making videos just like to talk. Give me some good written directions!

    Hi Emily,
I prefer to read a blog post with screenshots. I do like video clips, however they go so fast sometimes that if your trying to learn how to do something you have to replay it over and over.

Can this be done on the mobile app? I don’t have a computer and can’t figure out how to copy on my phone.

Unfortunately, it can’t. I tried and tried. You can’t have the app open twice, which is what you’d need to do.

Hi, I seem to do better by reading a blog post and seeing screenshots. I don’t use TicTok anymore and Instagram goes too fast for me, plus I have a terrible time trying to navigate it. lol

Instagram favors Reels so much, so you have to compress the whole thing into a few seconds. It’s more for entertainment than a search engine, I think.

Yes, I definitely agree it’s easier to find a quick answer in a blog post than to watch a whole video.

I like both – watch the video for a quick how-to – then have the blog with instructions for the slow-down!
